Something ate through the bottom of my trashcans
Opened the bags and now the detritus is strewn
on the lawn, under the deck, the throw offs of a flush life
Was it a rat or that goddamned groundhog that
lives under my shed and eats all
my fledgling vegetables and flowers
My boss says it was here first, first
before the ranchers and colonials and minivans
Not sure how long groundhogs live but I get the point
